The Salford Boys - Giggs and Scholes

The Salford History
Paul Scholes was born in Salford, Greater Manchester whereas Ryan Giggs moved to Salford at the age of six when his father switched rugby codes and signed for Swinton Lions, forcing the whole family to move north to Swinton, a town in Salford. These two players who had their childhood at Salford was the future legends of the Red Devils of Manchester – Manchester United.
Age is not a factor
Alessandro Costacurta and Paolo Maldini were closing in on 40 when they helped AC Milan to Champions League glory in 2007, that’s the same in the case of the United duo where Scholes is 37 and Giggs is just a year older than him. Scholes has made nearly 700 appearances for United whereas Giggs had made 900 appearances, the highest for an United player even exceeding Sir Bobby Charlton.
The United Life
Paul Scholes has been placed sixth in United’s Greatest Ever players whereas Ryan Giggs had been the best ever player for MUFC in the list ahead of George Best and Eric Cantona and many other Red legends.
Sir Alex Ferguson had claimed many times that Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes are United’s greatest ever players. Giggs had been more discipline than Scholes as Giggs had never been sent off while for playing Manchester United than Scholes who had received 4 red cards. Scholes have scored 152 times for United while Giggs is just 11 more at 163 as of  11 March 2012 which shows that both these players have contributed equally for the club’s success.

The stats of these legends is same even in the case of International appearances and goals where Giggsy had scored 12 goals of his 64 appearances for Wales whereas Scholesy have scored 14 out of 66 appearances for England.

The United duo was on full force when Ryan Giggs made his 900th appearance for United which came against Norwich City. Scholes who gave the early lead of the match, but that was cancelled out in the 83rd minute by a fine strike by Norwich City captain Holt. But Giggs gave the lead for United at the 90th minute at his 900th match which secured the much important 3 points that caused to overtake noisy neighbours City.

The veteran midfielders defied the ageing process by breaking several records, no one could have never thought of. Giggs will be 39 in November and has already signed on for another season, which will be his 22nd at Old Trafford. Scholes has not yet decided whether he will follow his decision in January to take his boots out of storage by playing on into next term, which would be a 19th campaign.

The way the control the tempo of the game and the range of passing are incredible. And you can't forget their goals either. To say the truth, these two legends at the mid-field for United is the best footy duo ever in the world.
